Im Rahmen des digitalen Workshops "Koloniale Gewaltparadigmen: Vergleichende Analyse von Holocaust, Völkermord und Massenmord", der Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus der Holocaust- sowie der Kolonial- und Imperialforschung aus Großbritannien, den USA, Kanada, Israel, Polen und Deutschland zusammenbrachte, veranstalteten das Zentrum für Holocaust-Forschung am Institut für Zeitgeschichte München und das Hugo Valentin Centre an der Uppsala University am 13. November 2020 eine öffentliche digitale Podiumsdiskussion. Ulrike Lindner (Universität zu Köln), Carroll P. Kakel (Johns Hopkins University) und Donald Bloxham (University of Edinburgh) diskutierten die Beziehung zwischen Holocaust und kolonialer Gewalt sowie die komplexe historische Debatte zu diesem Thema. Die Diskussion zeigte, wie wichtig es ist, Aspekte dieser Debatte in die weitere Holocaust-Geschichtsschreibung zu integrieren und beleuchtete die Unterschiede in den nationalen Herangehensweisen in der Forschung und Bildung zum Holocaust im Vergleich zum Thema Kolonial- und Imperialgeschichte.

Der Workshop und die Podiumsdiskussion wurden von Rachel O'Sullivan (Zentrum für Holocaust-Studien, IfZ) und Michelle Gordon (Hugo Valentin Centre, Universität Uppsala) organisiert. Die Podiumsdiskussion fand große Beachtung; dank des digitalen Formats konnten fast 200 Personen aus verschiedenen internationalen Forschungseinrichtungen die Veranstaltung online verfolgen.

As part of the digital workshop "Colonial Paradigms of Violence: Comparative Analysis of the Holocaust, Genocide and Mass Killing," which brought together Holocaust scholars and colonial and imperial scholars from the UK, the USA, Canada, Israel, Poland and Germany, the Center for Holocaust Studies at the Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History (IfZ) and the Hugo Valentin Centre, Uppsala University, hosted a public digital Panel Discussion on the 13th November 2020. Ulrike Lindner (University of Cologne), Carroll P. Kakel (Johns Hopkins University) and Donald Bloxham (University of Edinburgh) discussed the relationship between the Holocaust and colonial violence and the complexities of the historical debate on the topic. The discussion highlighted the importance of integrating aspects of the debate into wider Holocaust historiography and shed light on the differences in national approaches to Holocaust history and education in comparison with education on the topic of colonial and imperial history.

The workshop and the Panel Discussion were organised by Rachel O'Sullivan (Center for Holocaust Studies, IfZ) and Michelle Gordon (Hugo Valentin Centre, Uppsala University). The Panel Discussion received much attention and, thanks to the digital platform, almost 200 people from a variety of international research institutions were able to view the event online.
