The Weimar Republic: Germany between Tradition, Modernity, and National Socialism
Project content:
The historiographic view of the Weimar Republic has now rown to include a wide range of different facets. Negative clichés that have often served as a contrast to the development of the Federal Republic have been frequently replaced by complex explanatory approaches to understanding its political failure. However, efforts can also be seen to include the view of Weimar into the framework of “Western” developments in general and thus to “normalize” it. Within this context, this project aims at an essay-style synthesis that offers a nuanced interpretation of Weimar history.
